Algebra 2 and Liberal Arts Math 2

Ms. Gilligan Avatar Saying Hello

Welcome to Algebra 2 and Liberal Arts Math 2!! I am so excited to be the instructor and mentor for your children this year. This is my first year teaching both of these courses and I am thrilled to be doing so. I love math and love teaching math and really enjoy passing my enthusiasm and knowledge on to others. These classes  will help your child prepare for college math and will help open doors to some of the best paying careers. The top forty-eight highest paying college majors are mathematics related.

I have a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida. I have been a Mathematics Instructor with Volusia County Schools full time since 2010 and been with Deltona High School since 2014. Teaching is a second career for me. I worked in Finance, Human Resources, and Payroll before and yes, they all used a lot of math. Anyone that majors in a business related course will tell you that mathematics is a big part of it.

Teachers are using an on line resource called Canvas this year. Some teachers may use it more actively than others, but I will be using it daily. It is a wonderful tool that I am able to post assignments in, generate on line discussions, post an on-line Class Notebook that students can also access and even use for personal notes, and a host of other tools. I have already sent students an invitation to join Canvas to their school e-mail. Everything is accessed through their V-Portal. Once they sign onto V-Portal, even if they bypass their e-mail account, they can click on the Canvas icon in V-Portal. Each class they are registered in will have a Canvas page and they can accept each one individually. I found out that they are working on a way for parents to be an observer in Canvas so I will let you know as soon as I have the information on this.

Remember, you can access you child’s assignments and grades in Gradebook any time and the grades there are current. Please remind your child that I require work to be shown when they are solving a problem. That way if they did get it incorrect I will know why and can help them. If they do not show their work I will give an Incomplete grade until it is corrected.

Please feel free to contact me any time you have a question, comment, or problem.

Let’s make it a GREAT year!!

Go Wolves!!
